October Half Term: Things to do in Broadstairs, Travel Heroes and Halloween!

3 min read

Another Half Term is on the horizon - the kids are more than ready for a break from the winter bugs doing the rounds of school and nursery, we can't wait for a few days without another email from the school office, plus a breather from the after school activities juggle is most welcome.

October half term is all about mellow autumn adventures and taking time to linger: woodland walks with friends in our fave wellies and waterproofs, hot chocolate and a game of cards in the local coffee shop, one more book in the library and an extra 10 minutes in the playground. It feels good to be able to say 'yes' when the kids ask for these things, instead of rushing them onto the next thing before they're ready.

If you've got a half term getaway booked, don't miss our Travel Heroes edit of games, books and screen-free tech to keep them occupied on planes, trains and in the back of the car. The Yoto Mini is one of our most invaluable travel tools - it's small and light and as you can load the player itself up with content while you're on wifi you can play your favourite cards when out and about with no connection needed!

But our number one parenting hack is to always pack a selection of tried and tested snacks when we're venturing out. Not only do we save money and reduce packaging waste, but we've learnt the stress of finding something they'll like in a new environment while managing connections and timetables is something we're keen to avoid. Our favourite snack pots, lunch bags and water bottles make things a lot less taxing, and add to the fun of the journey.

If you're in Broadstairs this Half Term, we'll be bringing you some fun and free activities at Kinder Collective this October: Tuesday 27 October will see local author John Condon host a magical Storytime and Craft Session in celebration of his new book We Are Fairies! Wands, wings and fairy dress up is optional but encouraged. Book your free space here.

We'll also have a Dinkum Dolls Colouring Competition, with the cutest Cat Nox Bag Charms as prizes for the winning artists, plus upcycled Halloween mask making in Craft Corner. And of course, we'll be taking part in the Broadstairs Trick or Treat Trail on Friday 30 October 2-4pm. Wristbands are essential to take part in this town-wide afternoon of fun, and they're on sale exclusively at Kinder Collective this year. Be sure to pop in and get yours in good time, as they always sell out!

Planning Halloween costumes? We've got a gorgeous edit of spooky dress up with Witches Capes and Hats, Wands a-plenty and Spider, Cat and Haloween hair clips from Rockahula and Mimi & Lula. Shop Halloween here - all treats, no tricks - we promise!
